Pontoon Park to Highland Gate

  • Route: We started at the new Bridge by Pontoon Park. You cross Chelsea Rd and follow the Tunnel View trail North parallel to Highland Rd.
    • The trail crosses Highland Rd just south of Roger Rd. You feel like your head into the middle of nowhere.
    • The trail winds around the City Street Department building before it crosses hwy 279.
    • Just stay on the trail, it comes out at Highland Gate.
  • Surface: The trail is the soft-surface trail. It is a wide rack trail design. Approximately 3 feet wide.
  • Rating: This section is rated as a Blue Square more difficult rating. It earns it.
  • Distance: This is the strenuous walk of 4.28 miles this route. There is a lot of up and down. Plan on a solid 2 1/2 hours to complete this walk. There are 323 feet of elevation gain on this walk.
  • Parking: Parking is not an issue. There is parking on the Pontoon Park and off-road parking around the Highlands Gate.
  • Notes: This is an advanced walk. Make sure you have water and a map. This is a fantastic route, there is lovely small creek, a great views of nature. Sadly a capitating display of the 2019 wind storm damage. Just before you get to Highland Blvd, there are several dozen huge trees that have been blown down. It will remind you of what mother nature can do,
  • Carry water and a phone when walking the trails.
