Buckingham Th to Metfield Park

Buckingham TH to Metfield Park

  • Route: Start at the Buckingham Trailhead heading east on Back-40.
  • At the bottom of the hill, take the Buckingham Cutoff to the Back 40 Trail.
  • Transfer to Summit School Trail, it feels like your going straight, the Back 40 turns South, and you go Southeast. Watch the signs.
  • About 1/2 mile later, Summit School Trail turns North, and you continue Southeast on the Rago Trail to Metfield Park. It is a will signed turn.
  • Surface: The trail is the soft-surface trail. It is a single track design.
  • Rating: It is rated has a blue square more difficult rating.
  • Distance: This is the robust walk of 1.67 miles to the Fire Station, 2.6 miles to Metfield Park parking lot, 2.8 miles to the Metifield Club House. It took about 50 minutes to Fire Station, 1 hour 15 minutes to the Park, and 1 hour 20 minutes to the clubhouse. There is a climb of 250 feet and 185 feet of decline on this route.
  • Parking: There is parking at Buckingham Trailhead. The Fire Station, Metfield Park, and the Club House have ample parking.
  • Notes: The walk was invigorating; there was a lot of elevation change with one big climb out to Trafalgar Rd. There is a long climb out the canyon on the Rago Trail, with about 250 feet of elevation change. The climb is long and steep. We felt like this was the hardest climb on the Back-40. Other than the climb out of the canyon, this is a lovely walk. As a note, Rago from Metfield is downhill going the other way.
  • Carry water and a phone when walking the trails.
