Lake Ann Back 40 Trailhead to Buckingham Trailhead

  • Route: Start east on Pinyon Creek Trail, Turn west when you get to Summit School Trail follow it 1.4 miles to Back 40 Trail.
    • Turn northwest follow the Back 40 to Buckingham Trailhead.
    • There is cutoff if you don't want to see the Bluffs.
  • Surface: The trail is the soft-surface trail. It is a single track design.
  • Rating: It is rated has a blue square medium rating.
  • Distance: It is a pleasant walk of 2.7 miles. It took 1 hour 15 minutes. There are 155 feet of climb (twice) and 187 feet of decline on the route.
  • Parking: There is good parking at Lake Ann Back 40 Trailhead and the Buckingham TH. The TH is located at 69 Castleford Dr. Bella Vista, AR.
  • Notes: The first mile is an easy walk with magnificent scenery. About 1.25 miles into the hike there in a steep climb out of the canyon at Sandhurst Dr., There is steep downhill just after crossing the roadway. The walk from there to Lake Ann is comfortable with lots to see. We have seen several hawks in that area on each trip to the area. There is a good climb back out of the canyon to get to the Buckingham Trailhead. There are two choices out of the canyon the Back-40 trail and Buckingham Trailhead Trail (the utility road); they both end at the parking lot.
