Buckingham Trailhead to the Lake Ann Bluffs Walk

  • Route: Starting at the Buckingham Trailhead, there are two options for walking in and out of the canyon. The Back 40 Trail and Buckingham Loop (the utility road) run parallel for ¼ mile, they both come together about ½ down the canyon.
  • Then follow the Back 40 Trail at the valley floor go north on Back 40 Trail. It makes a big loop ending at the Buckingham Cutoff. Take the Cutoff back to Back 40 and climb back to the trailhead.
  • Surface: The trail is the soft-surface trail. It is a single track design.
  • Rating: It is rated has a blue square more difficult rating.
  • Distance: This is the short walk of 1.34 miles. It took 30 minutes
  • Parking: There is good parking at Buckingham Trailhead
  • Notes: The walk down to the buffs is an easy walk with magnificent scenery. The walk from there to Lake Ann is comfortable with lots to see. There is a Native American archaeological site near the lake. It is well marked; please don't pick up artifacts. We have seen several hawks in that area on each trip to the area. There is a good climb back out of the canyon to get to the Buckingham Trailhead. Again both trails out of valley ends at the trailhead.
