Crossing the Dogwood Golf Course on the Back 40

  • Route: Start at Back 40 Trail crossing on Commonwealth Dr. Head south along the side of the golf course. The route is relatively straightforward stay on Back-40 until you get County Rd 828. It is much more than a trail itself. We parked on Rillington Dr and County Rd 828. (They are both dirt roads)
  • Surface: The trail is the soft-surface trail. It is a single track design.
  • Rating: It is rated has a blue square more difficult rating.
  • Distance: This is a comfortable walk of 1.6 miles. It took about 30 minutes. There were 90 feet of elevation change during this walk (down).
  • Parking: There on-street parking on Pennine Cr; it is about 200 yards west of the trail crossing, and we park the street on We parked on Rillington Dr and County Rd 828.
  • Notes: This route is mostly downhill, but there are not steep incline or long slopes. The path rolls up and down. This section of the trail has a mix of sandy trail surfaces and very rocky trail surfaces. There are some lovely views of The Dogwood Golf Course. The trail skirts along the edge, of course, for most of 1.5 miles. There is a little stream in the last 1/2 mile.
  • Carry water and a phone when walking the trails.
